Lession 2 - Functions Flashcards
What is topography?
what the behavior looks like
explain form vs function
function is the why of behavior, form is what the behavior looks like
What is the acronym for the 4 functions?
E.A.T.S
escape, attention, tangible, sensory/automatic
what is the goal of reducing behavior challenges
to reduce behaviors that interfere with learning, family life, social development
what does contingency mean in ABA
if A then B then C
What is NCR
noncontingent reinforcement -
giving reinforcement to prevent challenging behavior (for “free”)
NCR is what based?
time
ex. john shouts for attention every 20 min, teacher gives attention every 15 min
What is a way to make escape less valuable?
task modification
- make it easier (offer help, make less effort)
- more fun
- give child a choice
What are the 4 ways to reduce behavior challenges?
NCR, task modification, priming, eliminating trigger
What is priming?
telling the kids what to expect, “heads up”, have clear rules, first/then, schedules
- depends on kids verbal skills
What is extinction?
behaviors that have been previously reinforced no longer get reinforcement, eliminating that behavior in the future
What are the 4 types of extinction?
escape, attention, tangible, sensory
What is spontaneous recovery?
the behavior reappearing even after it has been extinguished
What is exinction burst?
a temporary increase in intensity, frequency, and/or duration of target behavior
What is “kind extinction”?
with-holding the maintaining reinforcer while also providing vocal and/or physical acknowledgment
