Are vestibular signs central or peripheral?
A
- can be either
- i.e. can affect the vestibulocochlear organ (peripheral) or the vestibular nuclei in the brainstem (central) or higher connections in the brain (central)

What is central vestibular basically the same as?
A
- brainstem

CS of vestibular lesions
A
- head tilt
- circling
- nystagmus
- asymmetric ataxia and nausea

What should all vestibular cases be considered unless you see signs of central?
A
- peripheral

CS of central vs peripheral lesion
A
- central lesions will show the same signs + other neurological signs e.g. proprioceptive deficits or other central nerve involvement (except VII facial)
