Lenses Refract Light Flashcards
Convex lens:
A lens that is thicker at its centre and thinner at its edges. It collects parallel light rays to its focus.
Concave lens:
A lens that is thicker at its edges and thinner at its centre. It spreads parallel light rays in different directions and directs their extensions to its virtual focus.
Short-sighted:
A person who suffers from myopia, which is a condition where the lens of the eye refracts light too strongly. This makes seeing distant objects difficult. The condition can be fixed by wearing concave lenses.
Far-sighted:
A person who suffers from hyperopia, which is a condition where the lens of the eye refracts light too weakly. This makes seeing nearby objects difficult. The condition can be fixed by wearing convex lenses.
Polarised lens:
A type of lens that has a structure that reduces the number of reflections.
Refractive power:
The power of a lens to refract light. Measured with a dioptre value.
