Definition of a wave:
a wave is a propagating dynamic disturbance (change from equilibrium) of one or more quantities.
2
waves move
energy not matter
3
waves are produced by…
oscillations
6
frequency-
Frequency (taajuus): How many waves or disturbances happen in a second. Measured in Hertz (Hz)
7
wavelength-
Wavelength (aallonpituus): The “length” of one wave, the distance between the “tops” of the wave
7
amplitude-
Amplitude (amplitudi): The “height” of the wave. How high is the “tip” from the center?
7
speed-
Speed (nopeus): How fast the wave moves. Measured in m/s
7
Connection between frequency (hertz) and time period (seconds)
Frequency = 1 : time period
Time period = 1 : frequency
9
Speed of a wave
Wave Speed =Frequency · Wavelength
12
Speed of the wave depends on the medium
When we increase the frequency of the oscillation, we only decrease the wavelength. The speed stays the same.
However, changing the medium* of the wave can affect the speed

*Medium / Väliaine =
Material through which the wave is moving
what is interference
When reflected waves meet, they interact.
