Q

Describe the principle of focus, F on a converging lens

A

If the rays of light coming into the lens are parallel rays then the point they converge it called the principle of focus

Q

Where is the focal length

A

It is the distance from the principle of focus to the centre of the lens.

Q

What is the method of measuring the focal length of a convex lens

A
  1. Set up apparatus as shown in diagram (Metre ruler, White screen, Convex lens, Lens holder)
  2. Move the lens slowly away from screen until a focused image of a distant object forms on the screen.
  3. Measure the distance from the screen to the centre of the lens using a ruler (focal length)
  4. Repeat and take average

Q

Why is light from a distant object used to form an image on a screen using a convex lens

A

Light from a distant object is used so the rays will enter the lens parallel to eachother

6
Q

If you use a thicker lens how will the focal length be compared to the less thicker lens in a convex lens

A

The focal length will decrease

Q

Describe the principle of focus, F on a diverging lens

A

If the rays of light coming into the lens are parallel rays then the point from which they appear to come from is the Principle of focus.

14
Q

How does a camera focus to take pictures of objects at different distances

A

The lens is moved forwards and backwards from the focal length so a focus image is formed on the film

16
Q

Why shouldnt you look directly at the sun

A

you will focus on the the light rays on the retina damaging the light sensitive cells.

17
Q

How is a projector focused

A

By moving the lens closer/further away from the screen
