Electricity Flashcards

1
Q

What name is given to the objects that let currents pass through them, why

A

Conductors, because only most of their electrons are held tightly by their atom allowing some electrons to move

Q

What name is given to the objects that don’t let currents pass through them, why

A

Insulators, because electrons are held tightly by their atoms and aren’t free to move even when connected to a cell

Q

Why do metals conduct electricity

A

As they have some electrons that are free when we connect metallic objects to a cell its the free electrons that move and form a current. The more free electrons the better conductor.

Q

What is a conventional current

A

This is when the current flows from the positive side of the cell around the circuit to the negative side.

7
Q

what is an electron flow/ how is it described

A

This is when the negative electrons that move around circuit flow from the negative side of a cell around the circuit to the positive side.

Q

What is current

A

Current is a measure of how much charge passes a point per second. We group electrons in unit called coulombs

Q

What is the electric current equation

A

Q=IxT
i= current measured in Amps (A)
