why Leicester?
Various reasons:
Course structure + teaching style
-you get patient exposure from yr1
-yr3-5 is almost completely placement based
-i think its an important and effective way of learning, hand on exposure will help you understand the best
-lectures followed up by smaller group work, practicing questions to consolidate your understanding
-again, an effective way of learning as your able to consolidate your learning and correct misconceptions
-group environment so not only relying on your own knowledge
-allows for a range of study methods
-full cadaver dissections is something that i am really keen on
-provides an amazing learning experience
-provides detailed understanding of anatomy crucial for clinical practice
-use of ipads, something my secondary school currently does
-find it very convenient, timesaving and effective
-one less thing to adapt to at uni
Research
-Leicester has a strong research reputation
-such as on covid 19 health inequalities (highlights how socio-economic factors and existing health conditions exacerbate the vulnerability of ethnic minority groups to severe illness, higher risks of both acute and long-term complications)
-similar to my NEA
Facilities
-leicester has really good facilities for their medical student
-clinical skills unit
-dissecting room
-societies and med specific societies
Diverse city
-City is diverse which is similar to my own
-university has a focus on empathy and diversity of patients
-also means there are a lot of great food places
Student feedback
-students ive talked to have really enjoyed their time at Leicester and have said that its a very supportive environment which is ultimately the most important thing
What do you know about the Leicester medicine course? Why is it taught?
-Leicester has an integrated course
-you get patient exposure from yr1
