What is The Railways Act 1993
Enacted when Railtrack was disbanded and the Railways were not run privately any more.
The Railways Act 1993 (as amended 2005) – This Act establishes the regulatory framework for licensing, access to railway infrastructure, access charges and capacity allocation.
What is the Transport Act 2000
Act totalling some 280 sections, which contains measures intended to implement the then Government’s integrated transport strategy set out in the White Paper, A New Deal for Transport. Significant elements of the legislation have been superseded by subsequent legislation, notably the Local Transport Act 2008 and the Bus Services Act 2017.
What is the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003
The Act provides for the appointment by the Secretary of State for Transport of a Rail Accident Investigation Branch, consisting of a Chief Inspector of Rail Accidents and a number of inspectors, whose functions will be to investigate railways accidents, with the aim of improving the safety of railways
What is the Railways Act 2005
Following the report known as the White Paper, the Railways Act was updated. The main changes were;
1. Abolished the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA).
2. Changed the financial jurisdiction to the secretary of state.
3. Established passenger focus, a single national consumer body.
