Federal Workforce Flexibility Act of 2004
people are central to delivery of services to the public

FMLA
Entitles ELIGIBLE employees> of certain covered employees> to take unpaid, job protected leave> for specific medical/family reasons>with continued insurance
who are the covered employees for FMLA?
50+ employees in 20+ work weeks for at least 12 months
what does FMLA cover?
birth or adoption
care for child or spouse, parent
employee health condition
active duty
covering for service member with serious injury
COBRA
gives former employees same insurance but more $$
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities
- if they meet the requirements at interview, you need to make it accessible
- has to have record of disability
- employer delineate mandatory functions of job
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Prescribes standards for-
1. min wage
2. record keeping
3. time: OT, call pay, waiting time, attendance
What does and doesnt FLSA require?
Does: 1.5 times reg pay for OT
Does not: limit # of hrs worked; does not require employees to give breaks byt the state may
exempt vs non-exempt employee
e- salary (FSLA), car sales, admin
ne- can get OT
Age discrimination Act
prohibits employers from placing an age limit on working
Civil right act of 1964
prohibits discrimination based on color, race, religion, sex, national origin
Who doesn’t have to abide by the CVR of 1964?
15 or fewer employees (family business)
labor organizations
independent contractors
religious practices and the CRA of 1964
employers must try and accommodate if possible unless doing so would cause undue hardship to employer
OSHA
Does not care about pts, cares about employees
reportables: death or incidents resulting in 3+ harm
Workers Comp includes?
medical coverage, rehab, % of salary, payment for injury
