A

-9 black children were selected to attend the previously all-white Central High.
-The National Guard were sent to prevent the 9 children from entering the school ‘for their own safety’.
-Over 250 reporters and photographers were there
-MLK arranged a meeting with President Eisenhower urging him to act. Ike sent in Federal Troops to guard the children going to and from school, in corridors, in classrooms, the dining hall and at home

1946 Morgan vs Virginia

A

-Irene Morgan boarded a bus to go to Baltimore Maryland. She was ordered to sit in the back of the bus, due to Virginian law.
-She objected and said as the bus was interstate, the law didn’t apply.
-She was arrested and fined 10 dollars

A

-The decision overturned the Plessy vs Ferguson decision of 1896 which allowed state-sponsored segregation.
-Warren’s court voted unanimous and stated that ‘separate educational facilities are inherently unequal’
