-Leader of the Black Panther
-Ten point programme included decent housing, freedom, end to police brutality and black history courses
-Many groups emerged as a consequence, some more radical than others
-Did community programs, such as free breakfasts for school children

-Wore uniform and carried guns

A

-Family terrorised by KKK (father dead)
-1952 joined Nation of Islam
-‘It was the ballet or the bullet’ (violent response)
-Didn’t advance for violence unless in self defence
-Assassinated in 1965
-Views soften in 80s and accepts white support
-Islamic beliefs
-Protect black women
-Highlights the oppressive system

-Lowndes County Freedom organisation- set up in 1965 (breaks away from Civil rights movement)
-Leader of SNCC
