A cyma or double curved leg, arching outward at the top, inward near the foot which swings out again; Used in Chippendale, Queen Anne and Louis XV furniture.
Cabriole Leg
Hinged leg to support a drop-leaf, similar to a gate leg but lacking lower stretcher.
Swing Leg
Four-sided or square tapered leg.
Tapered Leg
Turned leg with flaring profile of a trumpet turned upward. A distinguishing feature of the William and Mary style
Trumpet Turning Leg
Support for low pieces of Chinese furniture, short heavy leg that curved outward slightly at the top, down to a tight inward scroll at the bottom.
Elephant Trunk Leg
Carved leg of the 17th century, characterized by two scrolls, one at the floor and one at or close to the supported piece. The bottom scroll turned inward, while the upper one might spiral inward or outward.
Flemish Scroll Leg
Straight, square leg, either undecorated or craved with simple fluting or stopped fluting, sometimes tapering downward. Very popular in British Rococo furniture.
Marlborough Leg
Rearward-curving front leg of chair or sofa, resembling a cavalryman’s curved sword. Usually rectangular in section, sometimes with a reeded, fluted or gently round front.

Scrimitar
Turned leg incorporating spiral turning. Was popular in many styles from the time of Renaissance furniture onward.
