Leg&Foot Muscles O/I Flashcards
Tibialis Anterior
Origin: upper 2/3 lateral surface of tibia and adj. interosseus membrane
Insertion: medial side of medial cuneiform and base 1st metatarsal
Tibialis Posterior
Origin: upper part posterior surface of tibia (below soleal line), posterior surface of fibula and adj. interosseus membrane
Insertion: tubercle of navicular and medial cuneiform with expansions to all tarsal bones except talus.
Peroneus tertius
Origin: lower 1/4 anterior surface fibula
Insertion: dorsal aspect base 5th metatarsal
Peroneus longus
Origin: upper 2/3 lateral surface and head of fibula
Insertion: plantar surface medial cuneiform and adj. base 1st metatarsal
Peroneus brevis
Origin: lower 2/3 lateral surface fibula
Insertion: tubercle on lateral base 5th metatarsal
Extensor hallucis longus
Origin: middle 1/2 anterior surface fibula and adj interosseus membrane
Insertion: base dorsal surface distal phalanx of hallux
Extensor digitorum longus
Origin: upper 2/3 anterior surface fibula, interosseus membrane and lateral tibial condyle.
Insertion: forms extensor hood (dorsal and digital expansion) which attaches to distal and middle phalanx of the lateral 4 toe on dorsal surface
Gastrocnemius
Origin; medial head - medial supracondylar ridge and adductor tubercle of femur;
Lateral head - outer surface lateral condyle of femur
Insertion: via tendocalcaneus to posterior surface calcaneus
Soleus
Origin: soleal line posterior surface of tibia, posterior surface upper third fibula and fibrous arch between
Insertion: via tendocalcaneus with gastrocnemius into posterior surface calcaneus.
Plantaris
Origin: lateral supracondylar ridge of femur
Insertion: joins tendocalcaneus
Flexor hallucis longus
Origin: unipennate muscle arising lower 2/3 posterior surface of fibula.
Insertion: plantar surface base of distal phalanx
Flexor digitorum longus
Origin: medial part posterior surface of tibia below soleal line
Insertion: tendon passes behind medial malleolus and divides into 4 to insert into plantar surface base distal phalanx of the lateral 4 toes.
Extensor digitorum brevis
Origin: anterior part upper surface calcaneus
Insertion: lateral side extensor hood 2nd-4th toes and by tendon into dorsal surface proximal phalanx of hallux (ext. hall. brev.)
Abductor hallucis
Origin: plantar aponeurosis and medial tubercle calcaneus
Insertion: medial side base proximal phalanx hallux
Flexor digitorum brevis
Origin: medial tubercle calcaneus and plantar aponeurosis
Insertion: base middle phalanx of lateral 4 toes
