What is relative deprivation?
some people feel deprived in relation to others so commit crime in order to get what they feel entitled to

how do subcultures create crime?
People join subcultures to solve their relative deprivation
some turn to criminal subcultures, subscribing to societies materialistic goals
What is marginalisation?
unemployed youth are marginalised
sense of powerlessness so express frustration through violence
WC crime is worse now due to high unemployment + cuts to welfare
what is reducing inequality?
remove social inequality to stop relative deprivation
e.g. new deal from new labour getting those on benefits into work or training
stops them being marginalised as heavily and gives more opportunities
what is democratic policing?
Police rely on public for info
if this dries up go to military policing
to get support police must be accountable + crime control must involve schools and social services
