Lectures 3,4,5 Flashcards
Motor strip
Is in the posterior region of the frontal lobe
Central nervous system
Brain + spinal cord
Contain neurons and glia
Corticospinal tract
Is a bundle of axons from the frontal cortex (including the motor strip) that project down to the spinal cord
Thalamus
Contains separate compartments that receive auditory, visual, & touch informations nd sends the information to the cortex
Hypothalamus
Motivations for hunger, thirst, sex
Pons
Axons traveling between the brain and spinal cord pass through
Cerebellum
Coordination of body movements, body balance
Motor neuron
Neuron that makes synaptic contact with a muscle
Neuromuscular junction
The synapse between a neuron and a muscle
Cervical
Neck, shoulders, outer arm, hands
Thoracic
Inner arm, most of torso (chest, abdomen)
Lumbar
Lower parts of back, parts of the legs
Sacral
Feet (and parts of the legs)
Membrane
Separates the inside from the outside of the neuron, and keeps the positive Na+ ions outside from entering into the neurons
Polarized
When there is a difference in charge between the inside and outside of the neuron
