Britain used to trade slaves for two reasons:
-to make fortune profits, and to use them in its colonies for unpaid work.

-More attachment to religion and moral standards was considered an obligation to reinforce the Reform Act passed in 1832, five years before Queen Victoria’s reign started.
-more opportunities in education, employment and politics were given to men
-Victorian society encouraged a patriarchal order advocating gender division and gender separation in public places and institutions.
-It was not a free liberal society and the relationship between the sexes outside marital traditions was punished as being improper immoral activity.
