Lecture One Notes Flashcards
(Clinical Chemistry Basics: Powerpoint)
What is another name for a BMP?
“Chem 8”
What organ is the HFP for?
Liver, liver function panel
What is the estimated portion of serum in a spun down specimen?
About 55%
What is the estimated portion of blood cells in a spun down specimen?
About 45%
Why can’t you run a BMP on a sodium heparin tube?
Because the sodium in the anticoagulant would give false results for the BMP
What does EDTA bind?
EDTA binds calcium
What might bubbles in a specimen cause?
A falsely decreased result
What is a SD (standard deviation)?
A measurement of how spread out data points are from the mean, or average value
What does AMR stand for?
Analytical Measurement Range
What is AMR?
This is the technical range and is the upper and lower limit of an assay, anywhere out of this range is considered none linear
What is Quality Control (QC)?
QC is used to show that the machine and the calibration are both working properly
What do the different levels of QC show?
The different levels of QC show a different analyte concentration, the amount of levels all depends on the manufactures
