Q

Peduncles

A
  • regulate input and output from/to cerebellum
  • superior: efferent -> largest output structure, regulating limbic movements
  • middle: affarent -> largest portion, regulates input from proprioception, visual, auditory and tactile info processing
  • inferior: mostly affarent -> proprioception, where u are, how different body parts relate to each other while moving

Q

Functions cerebellum

A
  • coordination, fine tuning (timing), unconscious planning of motor behavior
  • learning of motor behavior:
  • > implicit learning, procedural memory
  • > details of automatic motor plans are stored that are not influenced by explicit motor plans of cortex
  • cognition, emotion
  • > function unclear but engagement in speech production/perception and emotion processing is noted

Q

Cerebellar dysfunctions - different forms of ataxia

A
  • dysfunctions of motor coordination
  • Nystagmus (eye fluctuations)
  • Truncal ataxia (inability to stand or sit upright)
  • Gait ataxia (drunken sailer walk)
  • Dysmetria (hand reaches out but misses the goal)
  • Tremor
  • Slurred, imprecise speech
  • dysfluent walking
