lecture cerebellum Flashcards
1
Q
Metencephalon/ Hindbrain
A
-cerebellum and pons
2
Q
Peduncles
A
- regulate input and output from/to cerebellum
- superior: efferent -> largest output structure, regulating limbic movements
- middle: affarent -> largest portion, regulates input from proprioception, visual, auditory and tactile info processing
- inferior: mostly affarent -> proprioception, where u are, how different body parts relate to each other while moving
3
Q
What info does the cerebellum receive?
A
- somatosensory
- visual
- auditory
- vestibular
- proprioceptive
4
Q
Functions cerebellum
A
- coordination, fine tuning (timing), unconscious planning of motor behavior
- learning of motor behavior:
- > implicit learning, procedural memory
- > details of automatic motor plans are stored that are not influenced by explicit motor plans of cortex
- cognition, emotion
- > function unclear but engagement in speech production/perception and emotion processing is noted
5
Q
Cerebellar dysfunctions - different forms of ataxia
A
- dysfunctions of motor coordination
- Nystagmus (eye fluctuations)
- Truncal ataxia (inability to stand or sit upright)
- Gait ataxia (drunken sailer walk)
- Dysmetria (hand reaches out but misses the goal)
- Tremor
- Slurred, imprecise speech
- dysfluent walking
