Lecture 9 - Functional Safety: V-Model Flashcards

1
Q

What are random and systematic failures?

A
  • We need to address RANDOM and SYSTEMATIC FAILURES.
  • Random – Occurring at random time
  • # Example: Operator error with procedure, random component failure (e.g. light bulb blows)
  • Systematic – Has a direct cause, eliminated by changing design, manufacturing or operational procedures, or relevant factors
  • # Example: Design flaw, Ineffective Procedures, Calculation error, incorrect specification
  • RANDOM Failures – Engineering Design
  • SYSTEMATIC Failures – Engineering Lifecycle
