Lecture 9 Flashcards
what do type I interferons do?
induce resistance to viral replication in all cells - including MHCI expression and antigen presentation in all cells, activate dendritic cells and macrophages
activate NK cells
induce chemokines
what do type II interferons do?
also antiviral immunregulatory anti-tumour properties NK cell activity made by T helper, cytotoxic T cells and NK cells
what is the role of natural killer cells and how do they work?
innate cells
they kill virally injected host cells or some tumour cells
can recognise changes in levels of MHC I on the cell surface
contain enzymes (e.g. granzymes and perforin) which they secrete to induce apoptosis in the infected cells
what is ADCC?
antibody - dependent cell - mediated cytotoxicity
what is the difference between a TH1 response and TH2 response?
have different subsets of TH cells involved
TH1 relies on T0
