Lecture 9 Flashcards
What is the Difference between Parenchyma and Stroma?
Parenchyma derive from Epithelium
Stroma is entirely surrounded by CT.
What are septa?
Extensions of the capsule into the epithelial components of the gland. Divide the gland into subdivisions called LOBEs and LOBULES
What are Lobes?
Subdivisions of a compound gland that is separated from adjacent Lobes by Septa
What are Lobules and what are they equivalent to?
Subdivisions of a lobe. Each is equivalent to a simple, branched gland.
What are 4 things about Acinus?
- Secretory parts of lobule
- Can be serous, mucous, mixed
- Basement membrane covers outer surface of acinus
- Myoepthelial cells are between basement membrane and secretory cells of acinus
Where are myoepithelial cells derived from and what are their functions?
Derived from epithelium.
Help express secretions of the Acini into intercalated ducts.
Where are INTRAlobular Ducts and what are they two types?
Lie within a lobule.
- Intercalated Ducts: Cl-/ Bicarbonate exchange
- Striated Ducts: Cl- (passive), Na (active) absorption and passively secrete Potassium
What are INTERlobular Ducts, where are they found, and what are they lined with?
Formed by confluence of two or more striated ducts.
Found in Septae between adjacent lobes.
Lined with Pseudostratified columnar epithelium
What are Minor Salivary glands made of?
Von Ebner
Labial
Palatal
Buccal
What are Parotid glands made of?
Serous Acini
Submandibular and Sublingual are what type of glands?
Mixed
