Q

What 2 locations is Ciliated and Stereociliated Pseduostratified Epithelium found?

A

Ciliated is found in Trachea

Stereocilia in Epididymis

17
Q

Where is Transitional Epithelium found and what is it called?

A

Urinary system and is called “Urothelium”

18
Q

What are 4 general functions of epithelium?

A

Protection
maintain concentration differences
Absorption
Secretion

19
Q

What is the function of Simple Columnar?

A

Secretion of Enzymes/Mucous and Absorption of Nutrients/Fluids

20
Q

Describe the 3 generalities for Structure of Microvilli (Brushborder)

A
  1. Fingerlike projections on apical side
  2. Non-motile
  3. Form brush-border across apical membrane
21
Q

Describe the 2 Functions of Microvilli (Brushborder)

A
  1. Primary Function is to Increase Surface Area to increase absorption
  2. Has Formin that interacts with Barbed ends of actin filaments
22
Q

What does Formin do?

A

Regulates assembly of Actin Filaments on Barbed end.

23
Q

Describe the Structure of Cilium (3 things)

A
  1. 9 peripheral Doublets plus central pair of microtubules
  2. Each doublet: Alpha tubule is 13 protofilaments, radial spokes, and pairs of Dynein arms projecting to Beta-unit of next doublet.
  3. Beta tubule is 10-11 filaments.
