Lecture 9 Flashcards
Name the three layers your eye is covered in
Sclera, choroid, retina
What is sclera?
White connective tissue
What is choroid?
Coloured pigment - made to attract light in the back of the eye
What is the retina?
Allows us to see, brings info to the optic nerve and then get them into the brain
What do the ciliary body and muscle do?
Move and adjust the length to allows you to focus
Name the two smooth muscles in the eye
Iris and ciliary muscle
Name the two types of iris smooth muscle
Dilator (radical) and sphincter (constrictor)
What does the iris smooth muscle do?
Regulates pupil size and hence amount of light reaching the retina
What does the ciliary muscle do?
Changes refractive index of lens accommodation
What is the dominant effect does the parasympathetic nervous system have?
Maintains the iris tone
What does aqueous humour do?
Maintains intraocular pressure, provides nutrients to cornea and lens and released into posterior chamber
How is the intraocular pressure determined?
By the rate of formation and rate of drainage of Aquoeus humour
What is COPD?
Airflow obstruction that is not fully reversible. The airflow obstruction does not change markedly over several months, usually progressive long-term
Define exacerbations
Rapid and worsening of symptoms
Define FEV1
Forced expiratory volume, max amount of air expired in one second
