Lecture 7.2 Tissues of the Plant Body Flashcards
3 Basic organs of plants
Leaves
Stems
Roots
The 3 basic organs in plants, are organized into these 2 parts
Root System
Shoot System
Structure that has the potential to form a lateral shoot, or branch
Axillary bud
Structure located near the shoot tip and causes elongation of a young shoot
Apical bud
This term helps to maintain dormancy in most non-apical buds
Apical dominance
Found at the tips of all roots and stems
Meristems (apical growth)
Cells that maintain the meristems as a constant source of new cells are called ___
Initials
___ Divide such that 1 sister cell becomes part of the newly formed body cell or derivative, while the other remains part of the meristem
Initials
Plants undergo ___ ___ which form new organs over their entire life span
Indeterminate growth
3 Types of Meristematic Tissue
- Ground Meristem
- Protoderm
- Procambium
Ground Meristem
Primary meristem tissue that gives rise to the ground tissues
(Parenchyma, collenchyma, sclerenchyma)
Protoderm
Primary meristem tissue that gives rise to the epidermis
Procambium
Primary meristem tissue that gives rise to the primary vascular tissues
Sum of events that progressively form the plant body
Development
3 Stages of development
- Growth
- Morphogenesis
- Differentiation
