a broad term that encompasses several interrelated concepts, such as equality, empowerment, fairness, in the relationship b/w people and the gov’t, equal opportunities and equal access to resources and goods

What is occupational justice?

A

uses an occupational lens to view global issues, seeks to enable diversity at the individual and group level, focuses on the relationship b/w occupation, health and wellbeing, and concentrates on enabling participation and access to resources

What is occupational marginalization?

A

a lack of integration, resulting from a failure or inability to adapt to the dominant culture. issues with adaptation lie at the individual, social and environmental level

what is occupational alienation?

A

isolation and estrangement from self and society due to occupations that do no satisfy inner needs. occupations are alientating when they are not personally meaningful and may be repetitive and boring

what is occupational deprivation?

A

external circumstances that prevent access to meaningful occupations over a period of time. may impair child/adult development as exposure to occupations is restricted. Risk factors include: social isolation, economic constraints, cultural differences and socio-political conditions

What is occupational imbalance?

A

a disproportion of occupation, resulting in decreased wellbeing. Removal of occupation increases stress, physiological changes and decreased health. Depress affect is partially a function of restricted occupations.

What is occupational disengagement?

A

may result from marginalization, deprivation, alienation and/or imbalance. often experienced by people with disabilities that involve multiple areas of life. characterized by under-occupation, impoverished sociolization and lack of access to community

What is advocacy?

A

Functioning with minimum conflict of interest on behalf of the sincerely perceived interests of a person or group in order to promote, protect and defend welfare.. in fashion which strives to be empathetic and vigorous.

A

when the problem is located in the environment, if the focus is on the system level (i.e. funding assistive device and legislation)
