What is an activity analysis

A

The process used by OTs to address the typical demands of an activity, the range of skills involved in its performance, and the various cultural meanings that might be associated to it

What does an activity analysis allow OTs to do?

A

To understand and target the skills and external components needed to perform an activity. Allows OTs to look at activities as a whole, the component parts of activities and determine how internal/external contexts contributes to participation in that activity

What information does an activity analysis provide OTs with?

A
  • Identifies needed equipment, materials, space and time
    • Provides a knowledge base for instructing others by outline each step and how it is done
    • Gives information on how an activity might be therapeutic and for whom
    • Helps to grade or adapt the activity to allow for greater success
    • Gives specifics for clear documentation
    • Assist in discovering how context influence performance of an occupation
    • Helps to select appropriate activities and find the ‘just right challenge’
    • Identifies areas in which the client needs help and intervention
