Lecture 7 - Medial compartment of the thigh Flashcards
Medial muscles of the thigh
Hip adductors
Innervated by the obturator nerve (l2- L4)
Obturator artery
Gracilis Obturator externus Adductor brevis Adductor longus Adductor magnus
Adductor magnus origin, insertion, action and innervation
Adductor and hamstring component
Origin:
Adductor aspect- inferior pubic ramus and the ischium
Hamstring aspect - ischial tuberosity
Insertion:
Adductor aspect- Linear aspera of the femur
Hamstring aspect- adductor tubercle and medial supracondylar line of the femur
Insertions separated by the adductor hiatus - space where the femoral vessels pass through
Action:
Adduction of thigh at the hip
Flexion of thigh at hip - adductor aspect
Extension of thigh at hip - hamstring component
Innervation:
obturator nerve (L2-L4) - adductor component
tibial aspect of the sciatic nerve (L2-L3) - hamstring component
Adductor hiatus
Space between the two insertions of the adductor magnus where the femoral vessels pass through Forms
Adductor longus origin, insertion, action and innervation
Forms the medial border of the femoral triangle
Fan shape
Origin: pubic body
Insertion: Middle third of the linear aspera of the femur
Action: Adduction of thigh at hip
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
Adductor brevisorigin, insertion, action and innervation
Short
Deep to adductor longus
Between the anterior and posterior divisions of the obturator nerve
Origin: Pubic body and inferior pubic ramus
Insertion: Linear aspera proximal to the adductor longus
Action: Adduct the thigh at hip
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
Gracilis origin, insertion, action and innervation
Most superficial and medial muscles
Origin: Pubic body and inferior pubic ramus
Insertion: Pes anserinus between the insertions of the semitendinosus and sartorius (medial proximal tibia)
Action:
Adducts the thigh at the hip
Flexes the leg at the knee
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
Obturator externa
Origin: External surface of the obturator membrane and adjacent bone
Passes posterior to the femoral neck
Insertion: Posterir aspect of the greater trochanter below the insertion of the inferior gemulls
Action:
Adduct the thigh at the hip
Lateral rotation of the thigh
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
