Lecture 7 - Measuring Workload in Team Sports Athletes Flashcards

1
Q

What is the impact/ interpretation of chronic load.

A
  • As training progresses though the weeks becoming harder chronic load rises which increases fatigue, however when acute load drops during a de-load week there is a state of fitness achieved,.

Q

What is efficacy and effectiveness?

A
  • Efficacy - the ability to produce a desire or intended result (Knowledge generation)
  • Effectiveness - the degree to which something is successful in producing a desired result (Knowledge application)

Q

What is the sweet sport for acute: chronic ratio ?

A
  • Sweet sport for the acute chronic ratio is 0.8 - 1.3
  • this is the upper and lower threshold for chronic load.
  • To calculate if your chronic load is 2000 you multiply it by these figures 0.9-1.3 to equal a range for chronic load between 1600 - 2600.

Q

What is the dose - response relationship

A
  • Relationship between how the external load applied and how this effected the internal load of the athlete.
  • How these two then effected the fatigue and readiness to play.

Q

What is acute and chronic load?

A
  • Acute- The total work that the athlete may do either daily or weekly and is seen as a fatigue status
  • Chronic - The average load over 4 weeks and is seen as fitness status.

Q

What is the equation for fitness status and what can being above the chronic load mean for performance?

A
  • Fitness status = chronic - acute loads.

- Can reduce performance and lack of fitness and lead to injury.
