Lecture 7 Flashcards
Define monohybrid cross.
1 trait w/ diff. alleles
eg. color
What is the PHENOTYPIC ratio of a monohybrid cross?
3:1
What is the GENOTYPIC ratio of a monohybrid cross?
1:2:1
What is a dihybrid cross?
2 independent traits w/ diff. alleles
eg. color and shape
What is the GENOTYPIC ratio of a dihybrid cross?
1:2:2:4:1:2:1:2:1
What is the PHENOTYPIC ratio of the dihybrid cross?
9:3:3:1
Define test cross.
to test an unknown breed with a homo. recessive
Chi-Squared Value Formula
x^2= (observed-expected)^/expected
When do you “REJECT” the null hypothesis?
When the p-value is less than 0.05
When do you “FAIL TO REJECT” the null hypothesis?
When the p-value is greater than 0.05
What does accepting “fail to reject” the null hypothesis reveal about the data?
observed is not close to the expected, results are not significant enough to determine a relationship
What does rejecting the null hypothesis reveal about the data?
There is a relationship between o & e
results ARE close to the expected, results are significant
Define simple recessive trait.
a trait that needs 2 copies of the recessive allele to show the phenotype
Define null hypothesis.
Null hypothesis= no relationship
