Psychosis
a mental health problem that causes people to perceive or interpret things differently from those around them. This might involve hallucinations or delusions. Experiencing the symptoms of psychosis is often referred to as having a psychotic episode
Schizophrenia (+)
any change in behaviour or thoughts, (e.g., hallucinations or delusions, disorganized behavior)
Schizophrenia (-)
where people appear to withdraw from the world around then, take no interest in everyday social interactions, and often appear emotionless and flat. Common symptoms:
* affect (blunted or flat)
* alogia (reduction in quantity of words spoken)
* avolition (reduced goal-directed activity due to decreased motivation) * asociality
* anhedonia (reduced experience of pleasure)

Hallucinations
perception-like experiences that occur without an external stimulus. They are vivid and clear, with the full force and impact of normal perceptions, and not under voluntary control. They may occur in any sensory modality, but auditory hallucinations are the most common in schizophrenia and related disorders. Auditory hallucinations are usually experienced as voices, whether familiar or unfamiliar, that are perceived as distinct from the individual’s own thoughts (DSM-V)
Delusion
fixed beliefs that are not amenable to change in light of conflicting evidence. Their content may include a variety of themes (e.g., persecutory, referential, somatic, religious, grandiose) (DSM-V)
Lability
state of unstable emotions (e.g., swing rapidly between laughter and tears) (Cara & McRae, 2013)
Insight
“can be defined not only in terms of people’s understanding of their illness, but also in terms of understanding how the illness affects individuals’ interactions with the world” (Markova & Berrios, 1992)
Judgement
general problem-solving ability
Concrete (vs abstract)
thought processes focused on immediate experiences and specific
events, inability to think metaphorically or abstract (Cara & McCrae, 2013)
Decompensation
in mental health refers to a when a person is experiencing increased symptoms related to their psychiatric disorder
