Lecture 7 Flashcards
What are the three basic idea that is cause of complex adaptations?
Intermediates that are actually capable offunctioning and modification of existing structurewith different functions and larger steps
Functioning intermediates
Where simpler forms of complex structures are functional an organ of different complexity in related species
Modification of existing structures?
Structures adapted for one function are coincidently useful for another function
Larger ‘steps’?
Mutations affecting genes that control development or small lentil change can result in large, coordinated changes in phenotype.
Gene duplication?
When a series af genes has an sequence that’s duplicated and makes us have two of the same gene in the same locus they can grew separately into there own functions
Adaptive radiations
World-wide adaptive radiations following mass extinction
what is exaptation?
structure adapted to one function can already be somewhat useful for other functions?
what is Eras
An eras is a division between three periods in time, in order it’s: Cenozoic, Mesozoic and Paleozoic.
what is Mass extinction
Where many species extinct in a very short time,it can be caused by a large environmental changes
what is End-Permian Mass Extinction
The biggest mass extinction of 90% of species an earth) cause a dramatic change
what is End-Cretaceous mass extinction
The most recent by extinction of 50%other than birds and dinosaurs and in marine life.) of species an earth that happend 65 yeas ago.
what is Adaptive radiations
periods of evolutionary change in which groups of organisms form many new species whose adaptations allow them to fill different ecological roles.
explain gene duplication?
when a gene duplicates over time they become independent with evolutionary change and are used for different functions
what are paralogs
are two related genes in one genome
