Lecture 6.5 - Ligaments of the Hip Flashcards
1
Q
What ligaments form the greater and lesser sciatic foramina?
L6.5 S3
A
Greater sciatic foramen:
-sacrospinous ligament (from lateral margin of sacrum/coccyx to ischial spine)
Lesser sciatic foramen:
-sacrotuberous ligament (from lateral margin of sacrum/coccyx to ischial tuberosity
2
Q
What are the innervation and blood supply of the hip?
L6.5 S5
A
Innervation:
- femoral nerve
- obturator nerve
Blood supply:
- superior/inferior gluteal arteries
- medial/lateral circumflex femoral arteries
3
Q
What are the extra capsular ligaments of the hip?
L6.5 S6-7
A
Iliofemoral:
- strongest ligament in body
- AIIS to acetabular rim/inter trochanter is line
- prevents hyperextension
Pubofemoral:
- obturator crest to joint capsule and iliofemoral lig.
- prevents overabduction
Ischiofemoral:
- weakest
- ischial rim of acetabulum to superolateral femoral neck
4
Q
What are the intracapsular ligaments?
L6.5 S8-9
A
Acetabular labrum:
-extension of acetabular ridge creating deep socket
Transverse acetabular ligament:
- across acetabular notch
- prevents inferior displacement of femur
Zona orbicularis:
- perpendicular to extracapsular ligament
- runs with neck of femur
Ligamentum teres:
- acetabulum to foeva of head of femur
- contains branch of obturator artery
