What is local tourism?
Local: Belonging to or connected with a particular place or area that you are talking
about or with the place where you live
Local: Or relating to, or characteristic of a particular place: not general or widespread
-does not define a distant and not spcifically related to tourism
What is domestic tourism according to united nations world tourism?
comprises the activities of a resident visitor within the country of reference,
either as part of a domestic tourism trip or part of an outbound tourism trip.
-next town/province as part of an outbound trip
-a lot of interpretation: doesn’t tells us what the actual distance is lrelated to local and domestic tourism
What are the different categories that can be included in domestic tourism?

What is local/domestic tourism dependent on?
They eye of the beholder can considerr the area differently and their experiences with that area can shape their view on local tourism
What is a staycation?
A Staycation can be defined as a vacation taken with the express intent of, as the
name suggests, staying close to home. The exact distance is not well defined
however, one common rule is anywhere one can go within a day and not have to stay the night.
What did staycations originate?
Originated in 2008, has to do with the recession going on (term stay cation). Many different industries were impacted.
Travel started to decline, and now seeing a resurgence of staycation during covid times
What is important about the yessowich definition of staycation?
50 mile radius in the yessowich definition
• Most likely going to drive or take transit to the destination
• Stay over night, can get bak home very quiickly
What is the definition of staycation from the podcast/readinig?
Stay Cation definition: Vacation in whih the vacationer stays home or near home and recreating the environemtn of vacation.
• Local touorism, appealing to the local toursits
• Can stay in your house or go somehwere near by
• Doing things that visitors to your city would do
How are staycations promoted/marketed?
markeeting states and sights to get people mto travel in the country and keep theem ehere, how to get them out and spend money
- Give people a feeling of being away but still being in their home state
- Hotels, restuarants local business/atractions were parternering to make the expeirence feel like you weere away and not in your hometown, feeling of doing somehting exoti
What is the market for staycations for?
popular among adults who liive together and are not marrieed
• Married couples are more financially secure so they don’t need a staycation
• Early in relationship don’t have a lot of money
• Single or have a fam with children are also popular casue kids are expensive
• College students wonderlust you expereicnce at that time are more liekly to do a staycation
What was the average distance and duration of staycations from the study?
Findings: average distance of travel was 48 miles and duration was 2.6 days, short keeps cost down. Makes for a break to get out and enjoy the world a little bit
• Large number (majority) takes staycation in a year
• People chiose staycation even when economy picked up
• College student spend their oiwn money on these
• More elikely to eat in casual restaurant (fast food/casual decreases costs)
What were the 6 factor for putting people into groups of staycaitoners?
• Culture enthusiassts: researches cultruer before
• Adventouruse eater: try new foods and local restuaants
• Socialites and party goingers: bars and clubs
• Health consiouc: hikers, eating at health consiouc locations
• Tv and movie buff: simply watch movies or tv (escape from everyday)
