Improvements to business processes where IS enables changes to make business possible in a new and better way.

What is Silos Perspective?
A
Functional
- Self-contained, functional units such as marketing, operations, finance etc
- Shows how a business is organised and the understanding of what the business does to achieve its goals
- Allows optimising expertise and training
- Avoid redundancy in expertise by hiring another to be assigned to a project across a function
Lose sight of business objectives = lost the effectiveness of business

Cross-Functional, Business Perspective
- Sequential set of activities that turns inputs > Outputs
- Keeps the “Big picture” to optimise organisational goals
- Avoids work duplication and has a strong communication with customers and stakeholders

Advantages:
- Efficiency (Faster transport, improved coordination)
- Decreased lead time
- Flexible (Separates individual from activities from Processes
- Insight: Uses capability to execute activities
- Improved Process Quality

A
- Decrease job satisfaction
- Dis empowerment of the lower management
- Hard coding of errors in process
- Too rigid: all expectations are captured by process model
- Must look at business process to understand the rule IS plays in business transformation
