Goals and Targets for Sustainable Development, Part I
What is the difference between goals and targets in sustainable development?
Goals are broad statements of intent, while targets are specific, measurable outcomes
What are examples of sustainability goals?
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving employment conditions, and increasing renewable energy use
How are sustainability goals structured at different levels?
Personal, corporate, municipal, national, and international levels
What are the EU’s targets for renewable energy?
Increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix to meet climate goals
What is the significance of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)?
They set the foundation for global sustainability efforts, later expanded into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Goal definition
High level statements that provide overall context for what a certain policy or programme is trying to achieve
Target definition
Targets are specific, tangible and quantifiable deliverables that the programme will deliver during a given period of time
