Lecture 5 - Problems with S-R Theory: Skinner, then Associative Learning Flashcards
1
Q
Three Problems for Hull-Spence S-R Theory
A
- Learning without reinforcement - you have no motivation.
- Reinforcement without drive reduction
- Extinction, punishment and avoidance learning
2
Q
Kamin’s Blocking Effect
A
Variable interval schedule generates a very steady baseline response. You introduce a Pavlovian contingency (noise than shock). The noise as a predictor of shock has suppressed the conditioned response.
- Noise -> shock
- Light + noise -> shock
- Test light alone
Result: no fear of light; only noise; learning occurs only when something unexpected happens - role of surprise
