Lecture 5 Flashcards
What is latent inhibition?
Predispose to a stimulus, without consequence impairs the ability of that stimulus to entered into a conditioned association
How do dopamine relaxing drugs suchas amphetamine affect latent inhibition
Amphetamine reduces latent inhibition
What is Kamin blocking?
‘conditioning of one conditioned stimulus to unconditional stimulus leads to the reduction of subsequent conditioning off the condition stimulus to another conditioned stimulus
What is prepulse inhibiton
The he response to a startling stimulus is reduced when the stimulus is procedabya similar stimulus of lower intercity.
What happens to latent inhibition and Kamin blocking and prepalmibition with dopamine antagonists
Enhancement of the phenomena
What happens to attention if there is too low dopamine?
There’s a more focused attention on only a few things
What do positively symptomatic schizophrenic patients display in regards to their latent inhibitions kamin blocking and pepulse inhibition
,
There is disruption to all theses suggesting a diffilingin sensory going and selective attention,
What occurs in hyperdompanergic environment
Attention is broadened
What may be assisted with ADHD?
Low dopamine treated with agonists → broadens attention span
What is schilophiena associated with
Low dopamine s focussing of the attention treated with drugstat decrease dopamine function
span
What is the effect of catechol-O-methyl transferase inhibitors in Parkinson’s
Allows for more L-dopa to reach the brain as when the a patient is also on carbidopa there is metabolism of l-dopa by COMT so we give this class of drugs to prevent this
