lecture 5 Flashcards
urban experimentation =
a way to seed change that over time may lead to fundemental transformations of a system. developing and trailling innovations as well as corresponding institutions that nature and scale them over time. once reduced to manageble scale, the phenomenon can be manipulated and observed. this is a defining feature of experimental knowledge production.
urban living-labs=
sites in cities used to desgin, test and learn from social and technical innovation in integrated ways
silver lining=
the lack of formal institutions setup can open space for innovation and experimentation
multilevel transitions approach =
a 3 level framework of landscape, regimes, and niche
multilevel transition approach; landscape
the broader pressures fron transitions, the landscape operated at the macrolevel, focussing on issues such as political cultures, economic growth, macroeconomic trends, land use, utility infrastructures
multilevel transition approach; regimes
technologies and technological functions coevolve with social function and social intrests
multilevel transition approach; niche
opperate at a micro level, is one of protectes spaces, usually encompassing small networks of actors learning about new and novel technologies and their uses
urban transitions analysis=
there is a need to explore how inovative activities within cities inerrelate with wider national and social transitions. understanding the role of cities is a multilevel transition perspective also needs to take seriousliy multilevel governance and different scale of action. we need to share understanding between a wide rage of urban policy makers and those who manage the energy, water, waste, transport infrastructure refimes. shared visions and the goal they outline provide a reference point through which networks can be built. we also need a sense of how an efficient capacity can be coordinated to act on the vision and the process of manifesting that capacity in action.
