Lecture 40: Heart Development I Flashcards
What forms from the primary heart field (heart crescent)?
Left ventricle, atria
What is the most primitive component of the mammalian heart?
Primary heart field/heart crescent
How is retinoic acid related to atrial or ventricular identity?
High gradient of RA exposed to cells posteriorly and they assume atrial identity; No RA exposure anteriorly and cells assume ventricular (default) identity
What is the result of the absence of Hand-1 expression in the primary heart field?
Defective left ventricle
What forms from the secondary heart field?
Right ventricle, proximal outflow tract
What is the result of absence of Hand-2 expression in the secondary heart field?
Absence of right ventricle
What forms from the proepicardium?
epicardium, interstitial cells, vascular smooth muscle, cornoary vasculature
What transcription factor guides formation of primary myocardium from cardiac tube?
Tbx-2
What transcription factor guides formation of the chamber myocardium?
Tbx-5
What are the results of cardiac looping?
S-shaped heart, atrium becomes dorsal to outflow part of heart, internal septa divide ventricle, then atrium
Bulbus cordis
Outflow part of the heart that leads to aortic sac and aortic arch system
Name the broader, proximal part of the bulbus cordis
Conus arteriosus
Name the narrower, distal part of the bulbus cordis
Truncus arteriosus
