How does cooperation and collaboration interact with gender diversity?

A

When coop. + collab. are promoted, then gender diversity results in better performance for the organisation. But when they are actively discouraged, gender diversity results in poorer performance. Gender diversity acts a mediator.

  • Quotas: actively promoted but punished if not achieved (which can subvert success).
  • Targets: more passive and slower but less impactful and no consequences for failing.

A

Policies/actions that attempt to increase the representation of a minority group, in eduation and employment. Specifically designed to promote diversity in certain areas. Only in place when there is an under-representation issue.

A

Aspiring uni employees were trained by higher up males and females on improving their CV, interviewing skills, etc. Shown to increase promotion of women to professor positions. Long term benefits.
High level support is important (Allport’s authority theory).

A

Intention of engaging with, which promotes attitude-behaviour relationships. Therefore women/minority groups promote AA more than white men.

A

Identify the origins of the bias, demonstrate this bias (consciously) and reduce the bias.
At universities, IAT showed male-leader and female-supporter stereotypes were endorsed. Approaching gender bias as remediable promote equity behaviours and improved the general environment.
