lecture 4- pedigree analysis Flashcards
probability
is the ratio of times a particular event is expected to happen to the number of trials during which the event could have happened
product rule
the product states that the probability (P) of two independent events occurring simultaneously is the product of their individual probabilities
sum rule
the probability of any of several mutually exclusive events occurring, is the sum of their individuals probabilities (non-simultaneous)
dihybrid cross
SS- 1/4, Ss- 1/2, ss- 1/4
F2 Progeny
can be classified as parental and non-parental or recombinant types
parent type
have same alleles as the gametes that formed the F1
recombinant type
have different combination of alleles from those in the gametes that formed the F1
how to assess if a smooth yellow seed is SSYY, SsYy, or other
testcross!
inheritance studies in humans
-many human traits and diseases are inherited but genetic analysis of these traits is difficult
- controlled mating in humans is unethical
- generating F2 progenies are not possible
- testcrosses are also unethical in humans
