What is the goal of social sciences according to Weber?
Social sciences are about finding an ideal type. Describing the why
What is the ideal type in simple language?
The social scientist chooses the crucial parts of a research/ population
What is a problem of the idela type?
It creates a bias
What is the common-sense thinking?
Puting scientific language in understable language about he people who we study, or hence the subject
What are the social scientific models?
The level of the scientist, how he or she sees the world, the study etc
What are synonyms for Shutz two levels of social science?
Insider and outsider view
What is the postulate of adequacy in shoter terms?
The sociological doctrine that descriptions or explanations of social situations must be comprehensible to those involved
What are two problems of the postulate of adequacy?
Its too strong;
o Too strict that everything needs to be understandable. Sometimes technical jargon is needed.
o It precludes for creating new discoveries.
But also too weak;
o If people understand the theory, doesn’t mean they agree with it. They bring their own common-sense perspective.
What is falsified
The fact that something is false. NOT THE SAME AS falsifability
