Lecture 4: Language in AAC - vocab Flashcards
Why are AAC users considered multilingual
Because they receive auditory input then have to compose a message using visual or tactile system - then the resulting msg is usually in a different form (auditory, action)
BEcause AAC is a multi-language system there are increased ____ and _____ demands and increased _________ competency is required

From communication partners (fam/friends/teachers) or by asking y/n questions (like with tommy)
What 6 things influence vocab selection?

Explain how encoding strategies can enhance rate
• . generate msg w combo of symbols/hits = produce a longer utterance
• For clients who can’t handle moving around layers, MinSpeak lets you stay on one page
• If you know the system well can generate anything
• Rate enhancement because less hits gives you more
• person can figure out which pattern to use
(tapping into a motor memory )
