Lecture 4: BONES AND JOINTS OF PELVIC GIRDLE Flashcards
What Bones make up the Pelvic girdle?
Two Coxal bones, The sacrum, The coccyx
The Hip/Coxal bone is a union of how many separate bones?
3: The ilium, the ischium and the pubis
How many joints are in the pelvis?
3
What are the joints of the pelvic girdle?
Sacroiliac, symphysis pubis and the hip/coxal joint
What are the articulating surfaces of the sacroiliac?
Auricular surfaces of sacrum and ilium
What are the articulating surfaces of the symphysis pubis?
symphyseal surface of pubis, fibrocartilagenous disc
What are the articulating surfaces of the hip/coxal joint?
lunate surface of acetabulum and femoral head
What is the primary function of the sacroiliac joint?
To transmit the weight of the body from the vertebral column to the bony pelvic
What is the Joint classification of the sacroiliac joint?
Inferior 2/3: non axial plane synovial ( functionally diarthroidal)
Superior 1/3: Fibrous syndesmosis ( functionally amphiarthroidal)
what is the joint classification of the symphysis pubis?
Symphyseal joint
( functionally amphiarthroidal)
what is the joint classification of the hip joint?
multiraxial ball and socket
What movements are permitted at the sacroiliac joint?
smooth gliding movement.
Nutation
counternutation
What movements are permitted at the symphysis pubis joint?
small amounts of gliding occur with the sacrum, vertebral column and lower extremity
what movements are permitted at the hip joint?
Flexion/Extension
abduction/adduction
internal/external rotation
circumduction
What ligaments are located at the sacroiliac joint?
interosseous sacroiliac
ant/post sacroiliac
iliolumbar
sacrospinous
sacrotuberous
+ capsule
