9
Q

What are 1st degree and 2nd degree spinal curves?

A

1st degree curves are present at birth ( thoracic and sacrococcygeal kyphosis)
2nd degree curves develop as infants begin to stand and walk ( cervical, lumbar lordosis)

16
Q

What are annulus fibrosis made up of?

A

Many layers made up of type 1 collagen

17
Q

What is the inner aspect of the intervertebral disc called?

A

Nucleus pulposus

18
Q

What is the nucleus pulposus made up of?

A

Type 2 collagen ( which is jelly-like)

19
Q

What is the difference between a disc protrusion and a disc herniation?

A

Disc protrusion is a bulging of the annulus fibrosis ( but it remains intact)
Disc herniation is when the nucleus pulposus ruptures through some or all of the fibres of the annulus

20
Q

What are the levels of disc injury?

A

1.) protrusion
2.) prolapse
3.) extrusion
4.) sequestration

21
Q

What is one of the most highly injured areas?

A

L5/S1

22
Q

Why is there no disc between C1-C2?

A

C1 pivots around the dens
