Lecture #4 Flashcards
Where is the Manubrium?
The upper part of the sternum
What is the clavicle?
The collar bone
What is the coracoid process for?
- Little bone under the acromion process
- Ligaments attach to protect clavicle
What is the acromion process?
It is the extension of the spine of the scapula where the clavicle will join to
Where is the lateral boarder on the scapula?
-On the side where the glenoid fossa is
What is the glenoid fossa?
The smooth part where the socket is for the humerus to attach
Is the scapularthoracic (SC) joint a real joint?
NO
What are some ligaments that support the SC joint?
- Anterior SC ligament
- Posterior SC ligament
What type of joint is the acromioclavicular (AC) joint?
- Arthrodial
- A gliding joint
Protraction of scapula?
Scapula moves laterally away from spinal column
Retraction of scapula?
Scapula moves medially toward spinal column
Depression of scapula?
Downward or inferior movement, as in returning to normal position
Elevation of scapula?
Upward or superior movement, as in shrugging shoulders
What do the shoulder girdle muscles do for the scapula?
It stabilizes the scapula
What do the nerve branches Of C3 and C4 work?
- Trapezius
- Levator scapula
What does the spinal accessory nerve (CN XI) work?
-Trapezius
What does the dorsal scapular nerve work?
- Levator scapula
- Rhomboid
What does the Long thoracic nerve originating from C5, C6, & C7 work?
Serratus anterior
What does the Medial pectoral nerve originating from C8 & T1 work?
Pectoralis minor
Upper trapezius OINA?
O: base of skull, occipital protuberance
I: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion process
N: Spinal accessory nerve #11
A: Elevation
Middle trapezius OINA?
O: Spinous process T1-5
I: Spine of scapula
N:spinal accessory nerve
A:Retraction
Lower trapezious OINA?
O: Spinous process T6-12
I: Base of scapular spine
N: Spinal accessory nerve
A: Depression
How do you strengthen a muscle?
Know the action the muscle does and add resistance to the action
How do you stretch a muscle?
Move the muscle in the opposite direction of the action
-Hold for 30 seconds
