Define: Primary Prevention
A
- any activity that reduces the incidence of disorder, dysfunction, or disability that would otherwise interfere with social, emotional or intellectual functioning of children
- activity undertaken before individuals are defined as ‘cases’ or ‘clients’

What are the 3 types of Primary Prevention Programs?
A
High Risk; targets individuals or groups known to be at risk, ex. obese children
Cohort; interventions with groups at particular stages of development
Community-wide programs; addressed to entire community, ex. child abuse prevention month, awareness program

What are the types of Medical Intervention?
A
Medication Surgery Adjunctive therapy Ongoing medical intervention (eg cancer, diabetes, transplantation) Glasses and hearing aids

A
Any treatment that is used conjunction with another to increase the chance of cure, or to increase the first treatment’s efficacy, ex. respiratory therapy for CF)
