What are empathic linkages?
The direct communication of emotions.
Is the following true or false? Non verbal communication is culturally based and can alter the meaning of verbal communication?

What are the phases of a therapeutic relationship?
Orientation, working and resolution.
A therapeutic relationship has a non-linear format and may be situated predominately in one phase- however professional boundaries are maintained.
Define transference and countertransference?
Transference= a pts feelings towards a nurse and their relationship. For example a pt who has familial issues with there father may transfer this role towards the nurse.
Counter transference: nurses feelings toward a pt. (may be positive or negative)
What are 4 common coping mechanisms?
Projection: attribute own unacceptable motives to others
Repression: keep unpleasant thoughts from consciousness
Denial: refuse to accept unpleasant reality.
Rationalization: use logic to justify unpleasant material and keep it unconscious.
What is moral distress in therapeutic relationships?
It is the distress we feel over the inability to meet our ethical obligations in a way we think we should.
This often occurs in nursing due to lack of staff or unreasonable expectations.
