Define biologic, psychological, social and spiritual domains of looking at mental illness?
Biologic= theories which explain neurobiologic changes related to mental disorders
Psychological=theories of the psychological processes of thoughts feelings and emotions.
Social=theories that account for the influence of social forces related to a pt, family and community.
Spiritual= the core of who we are and the connection between ourselves and our universe.
How does the mental health commission of Canada define mental health?
A state of well being where a person is able to contribute to society, cope with normal stresses of life, and work productively.
What are the characteristics of mental health?
Interprets reality correctly Finds meaning in life Has a healthy self concept Is able to relate to others Demonstrates creativity /productivity Has control over behaviour Is able to adapt to changes
What is the criteria in general for a diagnose-able mental illness?
Characterized by changes in Feelings (mood/affect) thinking (cognition) and behaviour.
Is association with significant distress, impaired functionality/disability, and is over an extended period of time.
Therefore DISTRESS, DISABILITY AND DURATION
What are the two major classifications systems for mental disorders?
DSM-V

What is the best method to assess the sensorium? And what is it?
It can be reliably tested using a mini mental state exam, LOC, concentration, orientation, registration, memory and attention.
Sensorium is the sum of someones perception.
