Lecture 3 Flashcards
What are the branches of the celiac artery?
Hepatic, Left gastric and splenic
What does the splenic artery give rise to?
right ruminal and left ruminal arteries
What does the right ruminal artery supply?
caudal 1/2 of the rumen including the blind sacs
What does the left ruminal artery supply?
Cranial 1/2 of the rumen
What branches off of the left ruminal artery?
reticular artery
What does the left gastric artery supply?
greater curvature of the omasum
lesser curvature of the abomasum
What artery branches off of the left gastric artery and what does it supply?
left gastroepiploic
it supplies the other curvatures of the omasum and abomasum
What does the hepatic artery supply and what are its branches
the distal half of the abomasum
the right gastric and right gastric epiploic
what does the right gastric artery supply?q
the lesser curvature of the abomasum
what does the right gastric epiploic supply?q
the greater curvature of the abomasum
what nerves are responsible for parasympathetic innervation to the ruminant stomach?
Dorsal and ventral vagal trunks
What does the dorsal vagal trunk innervate?
the rumen and visceral surfaces of the reticulum, omasum, and lesser curvature of the abomasum
What does the ventral vagal trunk innervate?
the parietal surfaces of the reticulum, omasum, and right abomasum
Vagal innervation is responsible for the functions of:
ruminoreticular contraction cycles omasal contraction cycle eructation regurgitation reflex closure of reticular groove abomasal motility and secretion
What is fatal vagal indigestion?
the lymph nodes can swell and cut off vagal innervation to the rumen, this paralyzes the rumen and causes swelling and gas to build up which compresses the lungs (animals usually die quickly)
